In April 2018, Mr. Jaspal Dhaliwal was named the new Principal of Dasmesh Punjabi School. Mr. JD (as he is affectionately known) has been an integral part of DPS for the past 22 years, rising from the ranks of teacher to Vice Principal in September 2008. He served in this capacity with Principals Sulochana Chand and George Peary over the past decade. He now stands ready to lead the school into the exciting future with our new academic building slated to open during the 2019/2020 school year.
Mr. JD is a prototypical immigrant success story. Like many of our South Asian citizens, he embraced the opportunities of his adopted nation of Canada. He started working in a mill when he arrived here originally. He was obliged to update his teaching credentials before he could qualify for a BC Teaching Certificate. This he did with hard work and an absolute commitment to the teaching profession.
Mr. JD possesses a B.Sc., B.Ed. and M.Sc. in Applied Physics. He was the first teacher in the school to teach Grade 11/12 Courses in Pre-calculus Mathematics, Physics and Calculus. He was the motive force behind the success that Dasmesh Punjabi School students have enjoyed in the Regional and National Science Fairs. His exemplary academic achievements add to his allure as the school principal.
Mr. JD represented Dasmesh Punjabi School on the Steering Committee they created the local chapter of the BC Schools of Character. Dasmesh Punjabi School was a charter a member of this initiative. Our school has adopted the six core values of this movement: Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Courage, Integrity, and Service. It is a measure of the esteem that he has earned in the Abbotsford School District that he was invited to be a guest speaker at Eugene Reimer Middle School Youth Forum on the value “Courage.”
Mr. JD is delighted to assume his new role at Dasmesh Punjabi School. He is determined to make the Dasmesh star even brighter in the galaxy of Abbotsford Schools. Under his leadership our students will continue to flourish academically and socially as the Board and staff pursue the school’s mission of “… creating a safe and healthy environment for quality education and heritage preservation for all learners…” as we fulfill the vision of our beloved founding Principal, Dr. Dalip Singh Gill.
